Bridgend Council’s Cabinet is set to approve three projects for the 2024-25 financial year under BCBC’s Town & Community Council capital grants fund (pdf).

Bids are judged on several criteria including whether they support the council’s Community Asset Transfer policy, improve the environment, or have a clear community benefit.

The three successful bids are:

  • Brackla Community Council: Tree planting scheme (total project cost £20,000).
  • Coity Higher Community Council: All weather surfacing at Coity Castle playground, pictured above (total project cost £27,042).
  • Garw Valley Community Council: A “Green Initiative Hub” at Parc Calon Lan in Blaengarw (total project cost £29,207).

The Town & Community Council fund will contribute £38,125 towards the three projects, with the remainder coming from the community councils themselves.

The remaining £181,000 will be available for further funding bids later in the 2024-25 financial year.

Two projects were rejected at this round:

  • Coity Higher Community Council: A new infant/toddler playground at Llys Gwyn, Pendre. It was rejected because the proposed equipment wasn’t disability compliant; BCBC recommended a future bid with help from council staff.
  • St Bride’s Minor Community Council: A multi-use games area next to Sarn Life Centre. It was deferred before further discussions over the future of Sarn Life Centre; possibly a Community Asset Transfer.
