The Boundary Commission for Wales has published its final recommendations for changes to Westminster constituencies in Wales.

The proposals are part of moves to cut the number of Welsh MPs from 40 to 32.

Previous proposals (now rejected) have included splitting Bridgend town centre and moving Pencoed into a larger Rhondda constituency.

The new Aberafan Maesteg constituency will include Pyle, North & South Cornelly as well as the four Llynfi Valley wards of Caerau, Maesteg East & West and Llangynwyd.

The Garw and Ogmore Valleys will form part of a larger constituency with Rhondda called Rhondda & Ogmore.

The current Bridgend constituency will be enlarged to include Pencoed, Cefn Cribwr and the Sarn/Brynmenyn/Tondu/Aberkenfig area. Porthcawl will also stay in the Bridgend constituency.

As suggested, these recommendations are final. There’ll be no further public consultation. That means MPs will be elected from these new constituencies at the next UK General Election and the old Bridgend and Ogmore constituencies are no more.

These new constituencies will also likely form the basis of changes to how/where Members of the Senedd are elected.
