Further details have been published ahead of this month’s Bridgend Council Cabinet meeting (pdf) on a bid to replace the artificial sports pitch at Bryntirion Comprehensive.
BCBC has made a bid to the FAW’s Cymru Football Foundation and Sport Wales to upgrade the existing 2G sports pitch to a modern 3G standard. The project also includes upgraded LED floodlights, new fencing, a spectator area and shock pad underlay. A dedicated access to/from the school car park will also be considered.
Should dugouts and storage be included, the new facility may meet Tier 2 licensing requirements for the Welsh football pyramid (the level below the men’s Cymru Premier and women’s Adran League).
The pitch would be managed by the school, with an agreement being drafted by BCBC’s Community Asset Transfer officer.
The school would continue to use the pitch during the day, with a draft usage plan in place for after-school hours and weekends (pdf).
It’s unclear at this moment in time what club would be based there, but the report says there has been “strong interest”. Support has also been offered to the school by other local clubs with experience in managing 3G pitches.
The total value of the bids is just under £560,000, with a £400,000 bid accepted in principle by the Cymru Football Foundation and a bid of £159,768 under consideration by Sport Wales.
The accompanying financial statement (pdf) estimates that the new facility would cost around £60,000 per year to maintain, but would generate income of up to £129,000 per year. Any surplus would be retained by the school.
