The Shared Regulatory Service has published its annual report for 2022-23 (pdf).
The Shared Regulatory Service (SRS) is run jointly across Bridgend, the Vale of Glamorgan and Cardiff. It provides certain environmental health, licensing and trading standards services across all three counties.
98% of food establishments in Bridgend were “broadly compliant” with food hygiene and safety standards, compared to a 95% average across the UK as a whole.
Additionally, animal welfare officers and animal wardens in Bridgend received three gold awards from the RSPCA for animal licensing, stray dog services and kennelling.
Some of the highlighted enforcement cases in Bridgend include:
- A company and company director received more than £4,500 in fines, costs and fees for failing to display food hygiene stickers and obstructing officers in their enquiries.
- Two businesses were handed down £986 and £2,825 fines and costs for putting perishable food on display after its use-by dates.
- A property owner was handed £1,401 in fines and costs for leaving two adjacent properties in a “ruinous and dilapidated state” and failing to comply with notices.
Some of the challenges the SRS believes will become more urgent and prominent over the coming year include underage sales of vapes, illegal dog breeding and rogue traders exploiting the cost of living crisis to target vulnerable residents.
