Bridgend Council’s Cabinet is set to approve two applications for funding under the council’s town & community council capital grant scheme (pdf).
Normally, the scheme attracts up to half a dozen or so applications each year. For 2022-23, just three applications were submitted and only two will receive funding.
The available pot of funding was £65,000. The successful applications were:
- Cornelly Community Council (£9,383) – Refurbishment of the community centre/installation of new windows (pictured above).
- Coychurch Higher Community Council (£5,000) – Creation of a wetland area as the first stage of a larger project.
Maesteg Town Council submitted a bid for just under £9,000 to replace boilers at the council’s offices. However, Bridgend Council has asked that they consult with the BCBC’s Decarbonisation Manager “to review the available options”.
The allocation for 2022-23 means that just under £50,420 will be carried over into the 2023-24 financial year.
Funding “could be withdrawn” from delayed projects
Several town & community council projects dating back to 2012-13 – totalling more than £126,000 in value – either haven’t started yet or have been indefinitely delayed, partially due to the pandemic.
Subject to approval, Bridgend Council officers will contact the above councils to get more certainty on timescales.
If the town & community councils say the projects can no longer be delivered or can’t be delivered during 2022-23, then that allocated funding may be withdrawn and re-added to the grant for 2023-24.
