Pencoed library – managed by Awen Cultural Trust – has been selected to receive a share of a £750,000 Welsh Government grant.
“Our successful partnership with Awen will help us to create modern spaces that provide people with the services they most need, such as remote working areas, as well as welcoming spaces to read, work and socialise within the local community.”
– Cllr. Rhys Goode (Lab, Nantymoel), Cabinet Member for Wellbeing & Future Generations
The funding will be used to install solar panels to improve energy efficiency, replace furniture so it can be moved around to (as suggested) create flexible spaces, provide community meeting rooms and improve quiet areas for private study.
Bridgend Council says the library will need to close in autumn 2022, with the work expected to be completed early in 2023 – which marks the library’s 50th anniversary.
