Cwm Taf Morgannwg Health Board’s Quality & Safety Committee has received assurances that hospital mortuary facilities are secure (pdf).
An urgent review was ordered at the beginning of November after a murderer awaiting sentencing, David Fuller, admitted to up to 100 necrophilic acts at two hospital mortuaries in southeast England.
The review of mortuary procedures at permanent and temporary mortuaries in the health board area has concluded that there are no concerns over safety or security.
The health board has agreed to a number of measures in light of events. These include a review of staff who have swipe card access to mortuaries, the introduction of authorisation checks every 6 months and awareness-raising across mortuary and porter services.
