Bridgend Council has submitted plans for a part-renovation of The Philip Squire Community Centre in Coytrahen.
The aim of the renovation – in their own words – is to to “provide wider services and activities to the local community”. The community centre has been used as a coronavirus testing site.
The plans include converting the existing changing rooms and shower room (said to be no longer in use) into a multi-use space with a kitchen and storage area. New windows will look out onto the playground/car park along with a new door opening onto a raised area.
BCBC say the renovated area “could be used for a number of community groups etc. and provide valuable income to the centre to assist in its upkeep and running.”
Llangynwyd Lower Community Council currently manages the community centre alongside volunteers via a committee and uses it as offices. As I understand is there are no proposals (yet) for a community asset transfer of the community centre – probably because the community council’s precept income is one of the lowest in the county (about £9,000 a year).
