Earlier this week, the Welsh Government announced the latest round of local transport funding grants for the 2019-20 financial year (pdf). It came as the Deputy Minister for the Economy & Transport, Lee Waters AM (Lab, Llanelli), announced a £30million boost for active travel schemes.
Just under £3.66million has been allocated for schemes in Bridgend county.
- Pencoed to Pencoed Technology Park (£898,600).
- Bridgend to Coychurch; it’s unclear what this means but I assume it will link Coychurch to the cycle path at Erw Hir in Brackla (£750,000).
- Brackla to Bridgend Town Centre via Brackla Street, possibly including improved access to Bridgend railway station from the east (£717,000).
- Newton Primary safe routes to school (£243,000).
- Penprysg Road Bridge Pencoed; unclear what this actually means as it’s clearly not a replacement bridge (£240,000).
- Coity Higher Community Access Plan (pdf) which proposes traffic calming measures, speed-activated signs, upgraded crossing points and pavement improvements in Litchard, Coity, Parc Derwen and Pendre– though it’s unclear how far the allocated money will go on the ground (£218,300).
- Bus corridor improvements (£150,000) and improvements to the A4063 Sarn-Maesteg (£50,000) – which I assume is a feasibility study in the case of the latter as that’s not going to go very far.
Just over £75,000 has been allocated for education and training and £316,000 to the core active travel fund – which I assume BCBC decides how to use.
