Bridgend Council has been awarded £910,000 through the Welsh Government’s Transforming Towns Fund towards redeveloping the Bridgend police station site on Cheapside.
As revealed earlier this year, Bridgend Council intends to buy the police station site as part of plans for a new Bridgend College campus. Discussions are still ongoing with South Wales Police and Bridgend College over those proposals.
The cost of purchase and demolition has been estimated at £1.3million, with the remainder of the funding coming from BCBC.
The report – due to be discussed by BCBC’s Cabinet later this week (pdf) – reveals that £2.7million has been secured from the Transforming Towns fund to date.
The funding has been used for 16 current and ongoing projects in Bridgend, Maesteg and Porthcawl town centres – including grants to improve outdoor hospitality and sales spaces during the pandemic.
