Bridgend Council has granted permission for a Welsh-medium “seeding school”, which would be co-located at Porthcawl Primary School (pdf).
The seeding school would have 60 places for nursery and reception children, as well as childcare facilities for 0-2 year olds.
Pupils attending the school would transfer to Ysgol Y Ferch o’r Sger in North Cornelly for Year 1. The Council’s long-term ambition is for a full Welsh-medium primary school for Porthcawl, depending on demand.
There were no objections from statutory consultees, but 4 objections were received from nearby residents. Their concerns include loss of privacy, issues with drainage, increased traffic and an “inappropriate use for the area”.
The application was unanimously approved.
