It follows a recent debate at a full council meeting. At that meeting, a motion was approved calling for the council to look again at partial depedestrianisation and improving access by all means of transport.

Public consultations have already been undertaken to reopen some town centre streets to traffic. However, enough time has since passed (without anything happening) for a new round.

The proposal, as things stand, would be divided into two phases:

  • Phase One – Improved cycling facilities at the top end of Market Street, providing more disabled/blue badge parking spaces along Derwen Road. Also, extended delivery access times along the pedestrianised streets with restrictions on cycling lifted.
  • “Potential” Phase Two – Subject to “further assessment”, reopening Queen Street, Dunraven Place and the pedestrianised part of Market Street to one-way traffic.

There’s only a commitment to Phase One proposals as things stand.

The consultation is available here. There doesn’t appear to be a deadline for responses so if you have strong views on this you should probably answer it ASAP.
