Bridgend Council’s Cabinet is set to accept an invitation to join UK100 – a local government forum established to deal with climate change (pdf).
UK100 is said to be the forum “for the most ambitious local government leaders across the UK” as Bridgend Council sets a target to be carbon neutral by 2030. The report says that UK100 runs campaigns around climate change, improving air quality and green finance.
The arguments in favour of Bridgend joining include sharing information between councils and local government leaders, providing more opportunities to talk with the UK Government and accessing the latest research and policy briefings.
To join the forum, Bridgend Council needs to make several commitments to understand the impact of climate change, as well as working with local businesses and residents to be net-zero by 2045.
There are no costs to the council to join the forum, though prioritising the goals of the forum may lead to climate change-related resources being given a higher priority compared to other council priorities.
