Bridgend Council’s Cabinet will discuss a report summarising the inspections of care homes and care services managed by the council (pdf). The assessments were carried out by Care Inspectorate Wales between March 2024 and January 2025.
New care home ratings system launched by Welsh Government
The Welsh Government recently launched a new rating system for care homes and care services. These ratings were already being used “silently”/not published as of 2024 but will be used to grade the quality of care homes.
Each care home will be rated on four themes: Well-being; Care & Support; Leadership & Management; and Environment.

The only notes of concern relate to areas of improvement at Ty Ynysawdre. It was recommended that Ty Ynysawdre update care plans more regularly to reflect changes in a resident’s needs. These care plans must also include risk assessments and guidelines around behaviour, mental health, speech & language and mobility.
In another bit of good news, no care home or care service needed an urgent action notice.
