Bridgend Council’s Cabinet is set to sign off another round of funding for town and community-sponsored projects in the 2023-24 financial year (pdf).
12 applications were made from 9 town & community councils, seeking just over £150,000 in funding from BCBC.
After a process of whittling them down – such as making sure they align with Bridgend Council’s community asset transfer and net-zero policies – four projects were selected:
- Coychurch Lower Community Council (awarded £2,018) – Upgrade to Coychurch playground, total project cost £5,636.
- Porthcawl Town Council (awarded £20,000) – Installation of disabled-friendly play equipment in Griffin Park, total project cost £100,000.
- Pyle Community Council (awarded £40,000) – Two separate projects; the first involving the creation of a kitchen garden near Pyle Swimming Pool, the second a new playground at Ty Talwyn Avenue in Kenfig Hill. The total cost of both projects is just under £247,000.
Some of the projects that were turned down include:
- Footpath and street furniture improvements in Coity Higher Community Council, Garw Valley Community Council and Cefn Cribwr Community Council.
- Conversion of sports changing rooms into a community activity centre in Llangynwyd Lower Community Council.
- A multi-use games area at Merfield Close in Sarn (St. Bride’s Minor Community Council).
Just under £54,000 of unspent money in this year’s round will be rolled over into 2024-25.
