There was an update earlier this week on a petition submitted to the Senedd by former Bridgend county councillor, Roz Stirman, calling for clarity over the ownership and maintenance of the Garw Valley walking and cycling route.
The petition called for the route to be bought from Network Rail so it can be kept in decent condition. Around the same time, Huw Irranca-Davies MS (Lab, Ogmore) said the route threatened to “fall into disrepair” if a solution wasn’t found.
In a letter to the Senedd’s Petitions Committee (pdf), it was confirmed the Welsh Government were to discuss maintenance and improvements with Bridgend Council. The Committee decided not to make any further comment until the outcome of those discussions is revealed.
A report to the Committee (pdf) added that BCBC were in discussions with Network Rail over a long-term lease of the route, adding that BCBC consider the route to be a full part of the county’s active travel network.
