Bridgend Council will make an application on behalf of the Linc housing association for green infrastructure at the Sunnyside wellness village – which is currently under construction (pdf).
The funding would/will come from the Welsh Government’s Transforming Towns programme which supports smaller regeneration projects. However, bids can only be made on behalf of third parties (like Linc) by a local authority.
News of the green infrastructure application may be met with sarcastic applause from opponents to the Sunnyside project, as several mature trees have been felled despite assurances that they would be retained.
However, the Sunnyside development proposes a communal allotment, natural playing area and a tree planting and tree management scheme. The green infrastructure may also be used as part of social prescribing programmes by GPs.
BCBC have sought just over £315,000 – which has already been agreed in principle – while BCBC isn’t required to provide any match funding. Linc would be responsible for funding any over-spends.
