South Wales Fire & Rescue Service have managed to donate a large number of pieces of firefighting equipment to fire services in developing nations (pdf – report 6ii).
More than 3,000 pieces of equipment were donated during 2020-21, ranging from breathing apparatus, gas cylinders, ladders, helmets and two fire engines.
The items were donated to Mexico, North Macedonia, the Philippines, Ukraine and Moldova.
Additionally, more than £7,000 has been raised by selling out-of-date fire helmets to staff as keepsakes. South Wales Fire Authority is set to authorise that this money is donated to the Firefighters Charity.
