Cardiff-based telecoms company, Ogi, has launched the second phase of a £200million investment programme to bring Gigabit-capable broadband to commuter towns and villages in southern Wales.

Work on rolling out fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) broadband has already started in Porthcawl.

The programme will be extended to the Llynfi Valley, with Caerau, Cwmfelin, Garth, Llangynwyd, Maesteg and Nantyffyllon named as part of the second phase.

“Our full fibre network is helping business to adapt and really embrace agile ways of working; while at home, families can experience the best possible entertainment choices, without the battle for bandwidth we’re all too familiar with on the existing, ageing part-fibre, copper networks.”
– Ogi CEO, Ben Allwright

The immediate economic impact to each area selected for the roll-out is estimated at £5million, with the longer-term impact estimated at five times the initial investment.
